The staff were exceptionally helpful, good location to the ferry if traveling on to Belize. Hostel was basic, A/C in room worked well, free breakfast was a bonus! The ferry to Belize was cancelled the day I arrived and staff recommended the bus to Belize City, with connecting ferry to the islands as it was cheaper. The company was Marlin Espadas who were not very professional (first bus broke down, second bus ran into parked car) and ended up taking a whole day of traveling to save a few dollars. In my opinion, it would have been more worthwhile waiting for the next ferry.

Downtown Hostel is the best place to stay in Chetumal! Staff is verry friendly and helpful. The Terrace is just amazing. You can relax in hamacs! There is a chilling spot with Netflix as well and the free breakfast is the best I had so far! You can make fresh juice...cook eggs and everything taste fresh and delicious. I highly reccomanded!!!

I stayed at the Downtown Hostel in Chetumal on 2 separate nights in late February 2016. I had a great time! It exceeded my expectations on both occasions. Clean, had hot water in shower, had a nice little kitchen and a sweet roof deck. The highlight though had to be the owner/operator Rodrigo. What a great dude! He spoke both English and Spanish and was so very nice and helpful. Gave advice on traveling and for local food, etc. A pleasure to deal with. This place was awesome and the price ( ~ 10 USD per person per night ) was such a value.

The staff were very friendly and they offered me oranges so that I could make fresh juice. Also when it rained they had umbrellas the guests could borrow for the day.
