I was very nervous about traveling to Mexico by myself for vertical sleeve surgery. From the time I arrived in San Antonio until the day I left it was the most pleasant, wonderful experience I have ever had. Everyone from Susan the coordinator, Rosie our driver, to the hospital staff, the people of Piedras Negras and ESPECIALLY Dr. Alvarez were better than any US facility or doctor I have ever had to deal with. The surgery was without any complications and I seriously had no pain at all and was up and walking the afternoon of my surgery. This entire process has changed my outlook on life, changed my life and given me the tool I need to be a healthy and happy person. I am so very thankful to Dr. Alvarez and his amazing staff for making this experience so incredible for me. The night before the surgery Dr. Alvarez and his team come and sit with you and your group and they explain the procedure and then they get to know you a bit. Once that is done he answers any questions or concerns you may have and the next morning you go in for surgery. He makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Once the surgery is over they have round the clock care and he and his team check on you through out the night. Once you are back in the hotel, they have nurses and the team checking on each patient and the next day they are there if you need them. Before you are discharged to go home, they check on you one last time and make sure everything looks good before you leave. The Dr. also sends you home with a bag of goods...prescriptions, a pillow for the flight, etc. All in all it was a great experience and I went by myself.

May 29, 2016 my husband and a friend and her husband all met at the motel in Eagle Pass, TX. That was the beginning to the Best thing I have ever done for myself ! Our entire time went exactly like clockwork and it was just like it had been explained in our paperwork, there were no surprises. Dr. Alvarez is great he is personable, knowledgeable and he is very easy to talk to. I have been in hospitals before in the US an met nurses and doctors and by far the nurses at the hospital in Mexico are the best. I usually have issues finding a vein and nurses always put me in pain, but not the ones in this hospital. Afterwards you can can email him or Susan with questions or you can call them. Surgery is a big step and you have to be sure this is what you want, in the beginning is a struggle, but after the first 5 weeks you will be so happy.

I had my VSG done in the US because of insurance but get my maintance from all the great knowledge of Dr. A. His videos and radio disussions are EXTREMELY helpful. If he can give so much helpful informatiion, and his clients are available, He has everything available on his site from vitamins to the sucess of his mom. He has his system down for compassion and with getting it done down in Mexico, your nosey friends can never know. This is only a tool; but it is great to have the doctor and staff there for real support and that seems what Dr A has done. IF I had done my homework, I would have gone to Mexico MY INSURANCE covered the local dortor but all the visits here, and the presurgery, probably is the same amount as Dr A and you have pricelss backup.
