It is hard not to compare the San Gervasio Mayan ruins to ones in Belize and elsewhere in Latin America. However, San Gervasio deserves as much respect as the other famous ruins as it is a survivor. Sadly, it is one of the only sites on Cozumel and there would have been much larger sites had history been kinder to Cozumel. Nonetheless, we went and hired one of the guides for $20 bucks to be our tour guide. Silvia gave us a tour filled with history, facts and a passion for her Mayan heritage. Traversing through jungle proved to be a respite out of the heat, but make no mistake it was HOT! Be prepared to see huge Iguanas, beautiful fauna and butterflies I have never seen. So, take some water and wear good shoes. Parking is free if you drive there and the be sure to tip the guard who watches the parking lot while you are touring...a couple of bucks will do.

Amazing Mayan history. Be sure to get a guide so you can hear the full story of the ruins. Also bring lots of mosquito repellent and possibly pants and long shirt.

Numerologia. Vale a pena conhecer.

A historical site. Beautiful and incredibly interesting. However, if you are expecting to see a massive pyramid, go elsewhere, this site is ruins. But it is still beautiful.

Great archeological site. Best one of Cozumel. There is a lot of walking at this site. Well worth the walk. There are two admission fees to get to the actual site. You will need to spend at least an hour here.

Amazing sites. My only drawback was that our tour was rated "easy" from Carnival Cruise Lines. 2-3 miles of walking on uneven, slippery rock roads is not "easy." Recovering from back surgery, this should be rated at moderate at least. Be prepared to do a fair bit of walking, and take your bug repellent.

Very interesting place. Off the beaten path. Not good for people who have difficulty walking. Many iguanas guarding the secrets of the Mayans.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to San Gervasio. Back at the cruise terminal, there were fake Mayan ruins, and I imagine that many people never leave the terminal shopping area to explore the real Cozumel. There are the usual shops, as there are at the entrance to most Mexican attractions. My daughter is a budding archaeologist, so this was the highlight of Cozumel for her. One cautionary tale: Many (most?) of the trails are not wheelchair accessible or good for strollers, so plan accordingly.

We booked this guided tour as part of an excursion we purchased via RCCL cruise line. The grounds are well kept with decent walkways/paths. Lots of Iguanas and native birds roaming around as well. The tour was interesting and the guide was very knowledgeable and kept us entertained during our 1 hour visit. As for the souvenir shops on property, the prices are more here than what you can get the item for in town.

The ruins are best if you visit with a local guide, else all you will have is a bunch of photos and no story associated with three places. The place has a few souvenir shops and a place that has some bad a$$ coco loco.
