Yooslis YHad a bad experience with Tulum Car rental. They subsidized our car rental through American Car Rental in Playa Del Carmen. While picking up the car, they were supposed to pick us up at the ferry terminal. Wrote in their email that someone from the company will be at the location holding a sign with the company logo and my name in big letters. I waited close to 45 mins, however no one showed up at the ferry terminal. Upon calling them, they asked me to come to the ADO bus terminal with my luggage in tow. Had no choice but to comply with their demands. We were tired, hungry and were just looking to check into our hotel room. While returning the car, they claimed one of the tires was damaged. Made me to pay for the damages eventhough it was clearly indicated on the inspection report that the tire was already damaged when the car was provided to me. With my ferry leaving in 15 mins, I had no choice but to pay for the ridiculous damages they claimed. After paying for the damage at the counter, the mechanic then kept telling me to give him half of what I had just paid and that he will get the tire fixed for us. He specifically told me to ask for my money back at the counter and then give him half. What a ludicrous display of trying to get as much as possible from tourists. It was clearly indicated on my contract that upon returning the vehicle someone from the company will drop me off at the ferry terminal. When I inquired about dropping us off at the ferry terminal, I was told at the counter that they do not have anyone who drives! This company rents vehicles, however there is no one who knows how to drive a car. What rubbish. In any case, after they inspected the car and made me pay for the damages, lady at the counter agreed to drop us off. I wonder where did they get a driver in 10 mins. Please save yourself the trouble and do not rent from these lying brutes.
